This is the second model of Hai Phong City deployed after being successful with the first pilot model in Thuy Nguyen District in 2022.
The ‘Farmers do tourism’ Club in Viet Hai has 22 members, including 5 members of the Board of Directing, which is the long-standing expectation of the local people.
Viet Hai island commune is isolated in an area of 6,817 hectares with 90 households and 290 people. It is known as “island within island”. In recent years, the commune has developed tourism, the proportion of tourism and services accounts for 65%, agriculture is only 25% and other industries are 10%.
Visitors can come to Viet Hai to experience “three-in-one”: mountain climbing, cycling, fishermen’s activities (boating, scuba diving, coral viewing, fishing). Besides, Viet Hai is also an agricultural production locality, which can develop models of tourism to experience farming, such as flowers planting, rice transplanting, vegetable and fruit planting.
Currently, the model of community ecotourism in Viet Hai is still quite small and spontaneous, mainly by households doing it themselves. Therefore, the people always want to receive more attention and investment, so that the community ecotourism model here is enhanced, methodical and more attractive in the eyes of tourists.
The model of farmers doing tourism in Thuy Nguyen District has promoted its initial effectiveness, contributing positively to the mobilization of officials and people to participate in the development of agricultural tourism.
In fact, the rural area of Hai Phong still retains the traditional lifestyle, customs and habits of the people of the Red River Delta. Traditional folk art and culture with folk songs, cheo stories, water puppetry and rustic dishes are be preserving. Along with that, the system of traditional handicraft villages are also strengths of Hai Phong’s rural tourism.
According to the Hai Phong Department of Tourism, rural tourism is expanding the tourist route space, initially forming a new destination, reducing the overload at tourist centers like Do Son and Cat Ba.
On the other hand, agricultural and rural tourism also contributes to creating livelihoods; create jobs, bring higher incomes for people, contribute to the preservation and promotion of local traditional cultural values.
