Binh Phuoc: OCOP elevates new-style rural areas

Implementing the OCOP program, the Binh Phuoc Provincial People’s Committee has certified 96 3-star and 4-star OCOP products. Each product is researched and processed by the entities themselves, creating real quality for OCOP products that convey the characteristics of each locality and business.

The OCOP program has also created great opportunities for businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups and households in Binh Phuoc to promote production development and market expansion. At the same time, it has a positive impact on rural economic development, contributing to the transition from small-scale agricultural production to production in the direction of value chain linkage, according to standards, traceability, meeting the market demand. From there, the OCOP program arouses potentials and advantages in terms of land, climate, specialties and creates a connection between agricultural development and services and tourism.

According to economic experts, OCOP is now not only a story about products, brands, and economy but also about international economic integration. In reality, the OCOP program has proven that Vietnam’s agriculture today not only is capable of solving the country’s urgent problems on food security, but also positively impacts the economy with new quality, new standards through rolling out products that meet the increasing requirements and demands of consumers at home and abroad. In particular, developing OCOP products associated with basic values, such as intellectual property, traceability, geographical indications and meeting strict standards of the market, has increasingly contributed to levelling up and enhancing the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. It can be affirmed that OCOP products are the bricks, creating a solid foundation to help level up and improve the quality of the program on new-style rural areas, especially the advanced new-style rural program.

It’s already obvious about the potential and advantages of OCOP products, but in order to maintain and improve the quality of OCOP products of the whole country in general and of Binh Phuoc in particular, it requires the cooperation of the whole political system and organizations, businesses and people in improving production capacity and product quality, meeting customer requirements. In which, criteria on safety for consumers and the environment must be met, especially organic content is enhanced and given top priority to.

Therefore, all levels, branches and localities must focus on orienting the OCOP entities to upgrade and perfect their products; managing and monitoring quality standards; supporting training, technical guidance… Functional branches must focus on implementing science – technology policies for OCOP products in the direction of research and application of science and technology, and protection of intellectual property rights, digital transformation in building and managing OCOP product brands. Especially, it is necessary to focus on traceability, granting of planting area codes, ensuring quality standards and forming clean agricultural production areas, applying high technology associated with the product value chain.
