Green Grasslands in Coi Da Village: A New Rural Tourism Destination in Quang Tri

(TITC) – Coi Da, a hidden gem recently unveiled in Kim Ngan Commune, Quang Tri Province (formerly Ngan Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province), is emerging as a captivating destination for travelers seeking tranquility and authentic rural tourism experiences.

Nestled in a vast valley surrounded by towering limestone mountains, pristine caves, and crystal-clear streams, Coi Da boasts untamed natural beauty and the rich cultural heritage of the Bru–Van Kieu ethnic group.

Here, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the freshness of nature, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of city life and even the presence of phone signals. It’s a rare chance to “detox” the soul – slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the rhythms of the mountains and forests.

Since 2018, Quang Binh province has piloted the tour “Discovering Nature and Exploring the Culture of the Bru – Van Kieu Community” opening up new opportunities for local villages. One highlight is Khe Nuoc Lanh in Coi Da village, which still preserves its pristine beauty. Visitors come here to enjoy sweet traditional folk songs and savor unique dishes rich in the flavors of the mountains and forests. Every year during the 10th lunar month, the village comes alive with the New Rice Celebration -a long-standing cultural tradition of the Bru – Van Kieu people. Tourists are invited to immerse themselves in the sacred, heartfelt atmosphere of this meaningful event, deeply rooted in the community’s heritage.

A Journey into Nature and Indigenous Culture

The adventure to Coi Da typically begins with a trekking route along the Nuoc Lanh stream. This clear, cool stream flows gently over rocky rapids, forming natural pools that invite visitors to pause and take a refreshing dip. As you trek, you’ll be awed by the raw beauty of the landscape – untouched forests, soaring cliffs, and the perfect harmony between people and nature.

Upon reaching the village, a breathtaking scene unfolds: an endless stretch of green grasslands dotted with ancient stone outcrops. At sunset, the valley glows in shades of orange and gold, painting a vivid, dreamlike panorama. Currently, Coi Da is home to just three traditional stilt houses belonging to the Van Kieu people, nestled quietly in the grasslands and adding to the serene, romantic atmosphere.

Beyond the peaceful scenery, visitors can explore nearby attractions such as the A72 communication station, Nuoc Cave, Tien Lake, and especially Cha Loi Cave – an awe-inspiring cavern located at the heart of the valley.

Living Like a Local

A highlight of the Coi Da experience is the opportunity to engage directly with the lives of the Bru–Van Kieu people. You might see herds of cows and goats grazing lazily in open fields or take part in daily village life – cooking, harvesting, or simply sharing stories by the fire.

Visitors can also enjoy local culinary specialties, prepared and served by the villagers themselves. Fragrant grilled fish, savory grilled pork, juicy grilled chicken, and aromatic sticky rice made from upland varieties are more than just meals – they are cultural experiences that reflect the warmth, hospitality, and culinary skill of the local community.

Coi Da is not just a tourist destination – it is a journey back to nature, a retreat for the soul, and an encounter with traditional culture. For those seeking a new, meaningful, and off-the-beaten-path rural tourism experience in Quang Tri, Coi Da offers exactly that – and more.
