The event was organised to create a
useful summer playground for children and introduce the culture and customs of
ethnic minorities at the “Common House” of the community of 54
Vietnamese ethnic groups. The activity had the participation of nearly 100
people from the Tay, Nung, Mong, Muong, Dao, Thai, Kho Mu, Ta Oi, Bahnar, Xe
Dang, Gia Rai, Co Tu, Raglai, Ede, and Khmer ethnic groups from 12 localities
across the country.
The activity “Colours of
Brocade” with the highlight is the programme “Colours of Time”
demonstrating brocade weaving of ethnic minority communities. Preserving the
craft means preserving indigenous knowledge, preserving life skills, preserving
traditional values… Besides, each traditional handicraft product contains its
own story, conveying teachings, knowledge, and skills accumulated from the
lives of the people…
Preserving traditional crafts is
also preserving the valuable folk cultural treasure of the people. Thai and
Muong ethnic people with traditional brocade weaving; Mong ethnic people with
their profession of weaving linen; Ta Oi ethnic group with Zeng weaving craft –
National intangible cultural heritage; Bahnar and Ede ethnic groups with
traditional weaving in the Central Highlands and traditional embroidery of the
Khmer and Southern ethnic groups. Besides traditional weaving, ethnic people
also introduce their traditional crafts such as making traditional musical
instruments, making medicine, weaving, embroidery, pottery…Each ethnic group
has its own characteristics, unique types of crafts, and traditional products
of each locality.
In addition, the Khmer ethnic people
organise the Rain Bathing Ceremony, also known as the unique Summer Welcoming
Ceremony. This is a long-standing ritual. On this holiday, Buddhist families
gather at the temple to offer necessary items to the monks. This day marks the
beginning of the settlement at a temple.
Besides, there are daily and weekend
activities, homestay tour programmes, culinary experiences, folk games…aiming
to introduce the culture, customs and traditions of the people, along with
experiential activities at the “Common House” of the community of 54
ethnic groups in Vietnam, contributing to enhancing exchanges between ethnic
groups and attracting tourists to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic
Culture and Tourism.
