The move has changed the mindset in agricultural production to rural economic development that the district has been following to make its new rural standards sustainable with well-designed tourism plans.

Being famous for tourist attractions that are rated special national historical relics namely Vinh Moc Tunnel, Vinh Linh Village Tunnel System, Hien Luong-Ben Hai Bank, Vinh Linh District is potential in hospitality and eco-tourism with some on the list: Cua Tung Beach, Vinh Thai Beach, Ru Linh jungle, Treo Cape.

With significant investment over the past years, more interesting places are added to the list, such as Ru Linh Flower Garden – Ruli Glamping, Bau Thuy U Cuisine area, Sa Lung eco-tourism, Dfarm, attracting a large number of locals and visitors.

Solutions needed

Vinh Linh though has potential for tourism development, some challenges remain facing the locality, including the shortage of professional tourism manpower, few businesses specializing in agriculture and rural development, unsupported infrastructure for rural tourism, and limited tourism services.

For that reason, the district has intensified investment in infrastructure to standardize rural areas with increasing engagement of farmers and all stakeholders working in the travel industry, according to Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Chairman of the Vinh Linh People’s Committee. The community-based tourism models will be receiving more attention and investment to have effective operations.

Meanwhile, the development of rural tourism would be coupled with the promotion of cultural and historical values amid robust digitalization. Accordingly, the local authorities would make proper planning that helps make full use of the potential while connecting tourist attractions in the district and province.

Another move is to build five souvenir shops providing local specialties and OCOP (One Commune – One Product) goods. At the same time, it will focus on organizing and restoring traditional festivals to make them fully operational. Some typical festivals are bai choi (popular folk music practiced in Vietnam’s central region) singing festival in Spring in Vinh Hoa, Vinh Giang, Vinh Nam communes; swing festival in Tet holiday (the Lunar New Year).

Gong festival of Van Kieu ethnic minority in Vinh O, Vinh Khe, and Vinh Ha is another highlight together with some festivals to pray for good fishing and paddle racing; the restoration of knitting in Trung Nam Commune, making fresh rice noodles in Hien Thanh Commune.

To make the services professional, the district will digitalize information and documents of cultural and historical relics. At the same time, it develops homestays in areas of amazing landscape like Tung Luat Village in Vinh Giang Commune, Hien Luong Village in Hien Thanh Commune, Vinh Moc Village in Kim Thach Commune, Thai Lai Village in Vinh Thai Commune.

Additionally, eco-tourism and community-based tourism are recorded in Thuy U Lake in Vinh Tu Commune, Vinh Thai public tourism beach, Sa Lung and Bau Sen wharf, and eco-tourism in ethnic villages like Vinh O Commune, among others.

The models would be diverse with different kinds depending on means of transport, namely road, waterways, and maritime to make full use of the attractions.

Nguyen Anh Tuan said apart from preferential policies, Vinh Linh will mobilize all financial sources regardless of the community, the private sector, international organizations, and agriculture collectives to make the targets possible.

He emphasized the need to attract investment for rural tourism across the district as the tourism revenues would return to environmental protection and expanding different tourism models, of which developing rural tourism in a professional manner with the support of digitalization is the best way to boost the new rural development.
