(TITC) – To celebrate the 80th National Day, on 30 August, Da Nang city will host the second trial of the Kim Bong Countryside Market at Kim Bong carpentry village, Hoi An ward. This special market promises visitors a nostalgic yet fresh experience of a traditional Quang Nam countryside fair, while also promoting local agricultural products and handicrafts. The first trial, held in June 2025, was warmly welcomed by both locals and tourists.
A village with deep cultural roots

Kim Bong village, once part of Cam Kim commune (Hoi An, Quang Nam province) and now within Da Nang’s administration, has a long history of development and embodies many of Hoi An’s social and cultural traits. The countryside market is not merely a place of trade; it is a living cultural space, recreating the spirit of a mid-20th-century rural market closely tied to Hoi An Ancient Town.
Immersive experiences for visitors
At Kim Bong Countryside Market, visitors will feel as though they have traveled back in time, immersed in the rustic atmosphere of the traditional carpentry village. Folk games such as bài chòi singing, blindfolded clay-pot breaking, dice games, children’s activities like folk singing, ô ăn quan (a traditional board game), and jump rope create a playful yet nostalgic ambiance.
Guests can enjoy countryside music, while in the evening the energy shifts to lively modern performances, reflecting Kim Bong as a land where tradition meets modernity.

The “Old Wharf” food corner offers visitors a chance to taste authentic local cuisine: bánh bèo (steamed rice cakes), mì Quảng, cao lầu, chicken rice, stir-fried clams, grilled pork, bún mắm, bánh xèo, and sweet chè đậu ván. Each dish evokes both childhood memories and the culinary richness of Quang Nam.
Showcasing craftsmanship and heritage

The market also features a vibrant display space under the theme “Kim Bong Carpentry – The Creative Path”. Here, agricultural specialties, OCOP products, and signature handicrafts are showcased and sold directly by local artisans and farmers. Everything from stalls to decorations – emphasizes eco-friendly materials, underscoring the sustainable vision of the event.
A traditional boat race on the Kim Bong River further connects the festival to its riverine heritage, adding energy and excitement. For many international visitors, these activities provide not just entertainment but also a deeper connection with Vietnam’s intangible cultural heritage.
A sustainable model for community tourism
Through Kim Bong Countryside Market, Da Nang is introducing not only a new tourism product but also a model for sustainable community tourism. It helps advertise local organic agriculture, encourages traditional handicrafts, and fosters pride among residents. More importantly, it creates meaningful connections – linking visitors with the community, bridging generations, and reconnecting people with their cultural roots.
The initiative aligns with earlier projects in Hoi An, such as the “Eco-Village and Craft Village Development Plan for Cam Kim (2021–2025)”, the “Restoration and Development of Tourism in Kim Bong Carpentry Village”, and the “Community Tourism Development Project for Preserving Cultural Values and Natural Ecosystems in Kim Bong”. Together, these efforts highlight eco-tourism, sustainable tourism, and community-based models that integrate rural life with cultural preservation.
With its focus on green tourism and cultural authenticity, Kim Bong is envisioned to become a “Happy Village” within the larger space of Hoi An – the UNESCO Creative City.
