Phu Tho: Developing Hung Lo community tourism’s OCOP products

In 2022, the Hung Lo community-based tourism product group was recognized as the provincial three-star OCOP products, contributing to promoting the tourism potential of the land rich in tradition and culture.

In 2021, the Provincial People”s Committee decided to recognize the Hung Lo community cultural tourist site, opening up the potential to exploit specific historical and cultural values for tourism development. Through ups and downs in the history, the heritages, customs and old village habits have still been preserved and handed down by Hung Lo people from generation to generation. Coming to this tourist spot, tourists can visit the ancient communal house built more than 300 years ago which has still preserved the tangible cultural heritage values typical for Vietnamese cultural architecture and imprinted with the characteristics of the era of Hung Kings building the country, and become a community activity space for the people. The Xoan singing program associated with Hung Lo communal house tourist site receives, makes presentations and guides visitors. Residents and visitors can listen to the artisans, main actors and actresses of the Xoan ward performing ancient Xoan performances. Visitors also have the opportunity to visit and experience the traditional craft of making banh chung, banh giay, making rice noodles in Hung Lo and the unique culture of the countryside market.

The subject of the Hung Lo community tourism“s OCOP product group is the Hung Lo community tourism service cooperative group. The cooperative group was established in 2021 with 15 participating members, providing community tourism services. Households participating in the tourism service cooperative group have agreed to operate products and services under the government”s management. In addition, they are also be trained to improve skills in tourism activities in a more professional and methodical direction. In 2022, Hung Lo community tourist site welcomed over 120 domestic and international delegations to come visiting and experiencing.

Considered as the cradle of the traditional craft of wrapping banh chung to offer to the Hung Kings on the occasion of the Hung Kings’ death anniversary, today, Hung Lo villagers have expanded the craft of wrapping banh chung in association with tourism development. Through tourism activities, Hung Lo”s cake-making profession is introduced to domestic and international tourists.

The OCOP star rating for tourism products contributes to improving service quality, creating a comparative advantage, integrating multi-values in each product, creating a connection between agricultural development, service and tourism. As oriented in the coming time, Hung Lo community tourism will continue to be enhanced with propaganda and promotion, further improving the quality of services, upgrading products, building this place to become an attractive destination and stopover for tourists in their travel journey to the festival region of Vietnam.
