Solanum procumbens is not a new crop, but since 2016, Solanum procumbens has been planted by people in Hop Hoa commune (Son Duong). However, in the following years, due to fluctuating prices combined with unreliable care processes, the product was difficult to consumed, causing many households to destroy Solanum procumbens and switch to other crops.
With the desire to rediscover the value of the Solanum procumbens plant, Mr. Bui Van Hoang, Dong Phai village, Hop Hoa commune, a bachelor of information technology, together with the people, ‘revived’ the Solanum procumbens plant, researching and processing it as well as finding the market for the product.
To specifically achieve that goal, Mr. Hoang established the Hop Hoa Agriculture and Forestry Production and Processing Service Cooperative associated with the development and expansion of raw material areas for growing Solanum procumbens.
With the determination to start a business from the Solanum procumbens, he mobilized people to grow Solanum procumbens and his cooperative will purchase their products. Realizing the dedication and enthusiasm of the young director, the people trusted and associated with the cooperative to grow Solanum procumbens. To date, the cooperative has 13 members and more than 40 households associated with growing Solanum procumbens.
Currently, the cooperative’s Solanum procumbens tea bag product has achieved OCOP 4 stars. In addition, the Cooperative develops more Solanum procumbens products.
In the coming time, local people will expand the area, apply science and technology in order to increase their income and stabilize product output.
