Long An province: Cooperatives contribute to promoting OCOP product development

The “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program is implemented to develop the economy of rural areas in the direction of developing internal resources and increasing value. This is also an opportunity for cooperatives to affirm product quality, increase competitiveness, and expand consumption markets.

Melon of Thuan My Agricultural Cooperative (Chau Thanh district) are recognized as 3-star OCOP products

As one of the typical cooperatives in the OCOP program, Thuan My Agricultural Cooperative (Thuan My commune, Chau Thanh district, Long An province) currently has about 2 hectares of greenhouse melons.

With 7 members, the cooperative organizes production and closely monitors production stages, ensuring products to meet food safety standards. To date, the cooperative’s melon products have been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.

Director of Thuan My Agricultural Cooperative – Nguyen Hong Quang said: “The cooperative’s melon product was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in July 2023. Along with that, the cooperative’s products also have traceability stamps and are certified as belonging to the safe food supply chain.”

According to Director of Provincial Department of Rural Development and Irrigation – Vo Kim Thuan, the OCOP program contributes to promoting the restructuring of agricultural production towards increasing added value and sustainable development.

The implementation of the OCOP program has created more motivation for cooperatives to boldly invest in developing advantageous products, gradually improve quality to meet the standards of many different markets associated with the formation and development of appropriate OCOP products. To date, the whole province has 9 cooperatives with products that meet OCOP standards.

“By participating in the OCOP program, cooperatives can contribute to promoting production development in rural areas, implementing criteria groups on production, income, and poor households in building new rural areas.

In the coming time, the department will continue to propagate, support and create conditions for cooperatives to participate in equipment investment programs, apply scientific and technical advances to production, and ensure they meet the criteria to be recognized as OCOP products.” – Mr. Vo Kim Thuan informed./.
