Dong Thap province: Jubilantly Opening Chau Thanh Longan Festival 2023

The Chau Thanh Longan Festival 2023, with the subject “Awakening Indigenous Potential,” opened on October 27 in the morning at the Chau Thanh district’s Center for Culture, Sports, and Radio (Dong Thap province).

Delegates performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the festival

The festival aims to promote and introduce people to the rich characteristics of Chau Thanh’s fruits; to honor the labor achievements of farmers; to create opportunities for learning and close connections between the “4 houses”; to attract investment in tourism and agriculture; and to gradually build the value chain for the district’s key products in a sustainable manner, according to Mr. Phan Thanh Dung, Vice Chairman of the Chau Thanh District People’s Committee, who spoke at the Opening Ceremony.

Two days (October 27–28, 2023) were dedicated to the festival, which featured a wide range of activities: fruit products and OCOP products were displayed, introduced, and sold; there was also a Chau Thanh “Beautiful Fruit” display contest; a competition to prepare dishes made with longan fruit; an amateur music exchange; a discussion about the potential for export and the relationship between longan consumption and the outcomes of implementing the model “Farmers reuse organic household waste and agricultural by-products to create biological products for production,” etc.

Visitors can try and savor delectable dishes prepared with Chau Thanh Longan fruit and other district agricultural products in addition to attending the festival.

At the festival, label products were arranged in an attractive manner

The communes of An Nhon, An Phu Thuan, Tan Nhuan Dong, and An Khanh are the primary locations for the production of longan, which is a typical product of Chau Thanh district (an area of 2,670 hectares, annual production of nearly 50,000 tons).

Currently, 126.19 hectares of the district’s longan growing area are VietGAP-certified. 23 planting area codes total 671.23 hectares that are exported to high-demand markets like the US, Australia, Europe, China, etc.
