Developing locally-branded products
The traditional sesame rice paper product developed by the Thi Chung establishment is the first product in Hoa Chau Commune to be recognised as OCOP.
According to Vice Chairman of Hoa Chau Commune People’s Committee Huynh Cao Tri, in the coming time, heed will be paid to review all products across the commune so that many of them can be recognised as OCOP.
In parallel with that, it is a must-do to improve the quality and design of OCOP, heading towards completing the criteria to be recognised as a commune meeting advanced new-style rural standards by 2024 and a typical model in 2025.
In a similar vein, in Hoa Tien Commune, since 2013, farmers have focused on organic rice production on an area of nearly 50ha. This is one of the typical, community, traditional and branded products of this locality, laying a foundation to build the raw material area of OCOP products. In the 2023 – 2025 period, the commune will continue to expand production with a total area of up to 100ha.
Driving force for economic development
Director of the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Phu Ban said that the newly-enhanced set of criteria for new-style rural communes in Da Nang in the 2021-2025 period clearly states that communes meeting the newly enhanced rural standards must have OCOP products are rated as standard or equivalent, with a specific expiry date.
At the same time, according to the OCOP programme, products are goods and services of local origin, characterized by cultural values and local advantages, and classified into 6 groups covering diverse industries, occupations and fields.
Therefore, communes need to review and follow the above-mentioned guidelines to actively develop more OCOP products based on their strengths and suitable to local conditions.
One of the key solutions for the effective implementation of the enhanced new-style rural programme in the 2021 – 2025 period is to boost production development and raise people’s incomes.
In particular, the development of OCOP products plays an important role, creating motivation to promote the role of cooperative groups and cooperatives in collective economic development, jointly building new – style rural areas across the city.
The OCOP programme, initiated by the MARD in 2008, is based on Japanâs âOne Village, One Productâ programme and Thailandâs âOne Tambon, One Productâ. It is an economic development programme for rural areas and also to help implement the national target programme on new-style rural area building. OCOP products are made based on the combination of local resources, traditional culture, and advanced technology. The programme looks to provide farmers with a chance to come together to form cooperatives, enabling them to create goods with higher quality and better design and packaging that meet higher standards and market demand |
