Kon Tum focuses on developing adventure sports tourism

Many localities in the province have exploited the advantages of terrain to build special sports such as hot air ballooning and paragliding in Sa Thay, Dak To, Kon Plong, Kon Ray and Kon Tum; Swing on ropes, row boats over rapids on the Se San, Ya Ly, Plei Krong, and Upper Kon Tum hydropower reservoirs; Ecotourism combines physical activities, mountain climbing, and experiences in Kon Plong district, Chu Mom Ray National Park, and Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve. However, adventure tours are largely spontaneous, with a small number of participants, so revenue from developing this type of tourism is unstable.

To effectively manage and increase professionalism for tourism types and products, Kon Tum province has developed a project to diversify tourism types and products to 2025, with a vision to 2030; which focuses on promoting the potential and strengths of adventure sports tourism. Accordingly, the province issued many detailed plans and schemes for implementation; At the same time, strengthen solutions to tighten and strengthen state management to improve efficiency and minimise risks for these types of adventure sports tourism. Thereby, creating a legal basis for sports tourism and adventure tourism to develop sustainably, connect and create value for the community and local people; contributing to tourism, economic and social development for the province. The promulgated project has promoted the initiative and creativity of units and localities in exploiting inherent potentials to develop diverse types of tourism, including adventure sports.

Recently, the Provincial People’s Committee also approved the project to develop ecotourism, resort and entertainment in Chu Mom Ray National Park for the period of 2021 – 2030. This is a “push” to help the unit speed up progress and complete steps and tasks to perfect many unique tourism products, including types of adventure sports tourism that are popular among tourists.

Due to the divided terrain with many beautiful natural landscapes such as waterfalls, streams, high mountain peaks, Chu Mom Ray National Park has favourable conditions to build and organise tourism programmes associated with adventure sports tourism at places such as 7-storey waterfall, Be Re I waterfall, Chu Mom Ray peak, Yen Ngua peak 1,200m; Climbing activities to conquer high peaks, adventurous trekking routes through the forest.

The target audience of this activity needs to be healthy, like to explore and experience adventure. Located outside the boundaries of Chu Mom Ray National Park, Chu Tan Kra peak is being exploited as a paragliding spot. There are also other famous tourist routes such as: 1,440m high sharp mountain peak in Ro Koi commune; Yaly hydroelectric reservoir; Sa Nhon mountain climbing tour – Chu Mom Ray peak; Sa Thay – Yabook terrain tourist route; Long-term tourist route around Chu Mom Ray National Park.

In the province, there are many places with bountiful favourable natural conditions with beautiful terrain, lakes and waterfalls, which are suitable places for tourists to visit, explore combined with learning about culture and relaxation, sports activities, experiences, adventure.

In the coming time, the province will continue to attract and call for investment in this field; Strengthen coordination between local authorities, businesses and people to implement each specific product, thereby gradually evaluating and improving quality. Activities aim to ensure ecological safety and livelihoods of indigenous people, creating a healthy development environment and harmonising benefits between people and businesses.
