(TITC) – On 8th December, at Rose Field tourist area, Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee held a press conference to announce the programme of the first Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival in 2023 with the theme “Love of land – Love of flowers”. The festival will take place from 30th December 2023 to 5th January 2024.

Sa Dec Ornamental Flower Festival 2023 is an important event of Dong Thap province, held for the first time in Sa Dec City with many attractive programmes. This is both an event honouring the flower village over 300 years old, promoting the economic and cultural values of ornamental flowers associated with tourism development and creating local image, and orienting the development of Sa Dec flower city in the future.
The festival will take place with many attractive cultural and tourist activities such as: Contest to decorate beautiful flower gates, flower streets, and office flower gardens; Display and exhibition of domestic and international ornamental flower products; programme to honour Sa Dec flower and ornamental growers; Ornamental flower market; Photo exhibition space “Sa Dec past and present”; exhibition of ornamental creatures of the Mekong Delta; Culinary contest; experiential tour programme; art show “Cai Luong with one hundred years of roots along the Sa Giang River”; exchange with provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta about the arts of Don ca tai tu, folk songs, Dong Thap songs…
Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee said, Dong Thap province is a land famous for its valuable historical and cultural relics and unique culinary arts… and especially Sa Dec ornamental flower village – the flower capital of the West. Sa Dec ornamental flower village was originally called Tan Quy Dong flower village with unique characteristics that cannot be found anywhere else. The farmers here are diligent, professional, and talented, they are artisans who contribute to creating value for Sa Dec flower village.

To prepare well for the Sa Dec
Flower and Ornamental Festival, Dong Thap province has focused on investing,
embellishing, and completing projects to expand Sa Dec City Square and renovate
Sa Dec Flower Park; beautify urban areas and tourist attractions, mobilise
households in the area to participate in growing flowers and decorative
ornaments; investing in renovating and upgrading facilities; implement plans to
ensure security and order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation, and food
safety and hygiene.
Through the 1st Sa Dec Flower and
Ornamental Festival event in 2023, Dong Thap wants to introduce to the people
and tourists the image of the meaningful, dynamic, creative “land of lotus”
with traditional cultural identity values – a safe and friendly destination.
According to statistics, the area
planted with flowers and ornamental plants in Sa Dec has 950 hectares, with
2,000 species, an increase of more than 200 hectares compared to 2022. Among
them, the two localities with the largest number are Tan Quy Dong ward (320
hectares) and Tan Khanh Dong commune (324 hectares). The total number of
households producing flowers and ornamentals is 4,000 households.
