Head of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development of Chau Thanh district Nguyen Pham Tuan said: The OCOP program has the goal of awakening potentials and advantages of rural areas, promoting the rural economy in the direction of developing internal resources, increasing value, and raising people’s income. At the same time, creating fair competition, encouraging community participation, exploiting, maintaining and promoting the potential values of traditional craft villages, developing typical products of communes, townlets in the district.
After implementation, the OCOP program has attracted the participation of entities with local specialty products. Subjects are equipped with knowledge about product quality standard requirements and production and business conditions of OCOP products. Thereby, contributing to promoting and enhancing the value of many strong products, contributing to building a deep, effective and sustainable rural area.
To develop OCOP products, Chau Thanh district focuses on restructuring the agricultural sector associated with developing handicrafts, trades, services and rural tourism. The agricultural sector strengthens coordination and propaganda to mobilize people, cooperatives and businesses to boldly invest in facilities and expand production scale while ensuring quality criteria, food safety and hygiene. In particular, focusing on product development based on the characteristics and strengths of each locality. In addition, actively supporting subjects with documents and procedures when participating in the program, creating conditions for subjects with product promotion and marketing activities to access the market . Every year, coordinating to deploy training classes, consulting, and orientation for OCOP product development for localities; Reviewing, selecting, and supporting products participating in evaluation and grading competitions.
Tofu is a potential product to become an OCOP product in the near future
With the active and timely support of functional agencies and local authorities, households boldly registered to participate and continuously perfected and improved product quality and design. Up to now, Chau Thanh district has 2 products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products by the People’s Committee of An Giang province, including: Co Nanh vegetarian fish sauce product of Yen Phuong business household (Trung Thanh hamlet, Vinh Thanh commune) and Ngoc Nhan fragant rice product of Tin Thanh ATC Co., Ltd. (Hoa Long IV hamlet, An Chau townlet). Besides, the district surveyed 12 potential products of 11 entities registering OCOP products, including: Tofu (Vinh Thanh, Hoa Binh Thanh communes); cordyceps wine, dried jackfruit (Can Dang commune); pure agricultural purple rice (Vinh Binh town); Thanh Cang white wine (Vinh An commune); durian (Vinh Nhuan commune); Bach Hop purple rice (An Chau townlet); Salty rolls and vegetarian mushroom rolls (An Hoa commune); Queen custard apple (Vinh Hanh commune); Phat Tai longan (Vinh Loi commune) .
According to Mr. Nguyen Pham Tuan, the OCOP program has brought many positive results in socio-economic development, arousing and promoting the spirit of self-reliance, confidence in creative entrepreneurship of the people, promoting production development in rural areas. At the same time, creating new directions in the production and trading of typical and traditional local products, in the direction of developing quality products in accordance with standards, increasing competitiveness and meeting demand of the market. However, products achieving OCOP in the district are still few. Production scale is still small and not commensurate with potentials and advantages. At the same time, there is a lack of connection with activities to improve the capacity of the subjects in terms of production, product development and market expansion. Support and promotion solutions for OCOP subjects and products after being evaluated and classified are still limited.
In the coming time, Chau Thanh district will continue to focus on improving management, administration, and product development capacity for businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and production households. At the same time, the district will support entities to standardize OCOP products and potential products, develop products along the value chain, suitable to local advantages and conditions. At the same time, promoting training to improve management and promotion capacity for managers and executives of businesses, cooperatives, establishments, and production households.
Strengthening the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances to innovate and perfect product processing and preservation technology, especially OCOP products that have been recognized with stars; Developing OCOP products associated with rural tourism. In addition, promoting activities to support advertising and trade promotion, connecting supply and demand for OCOP products; Introducing and trading on e-commerce trading floors for many domestic and foreign consumers to know, in order to bring high value to local agricultural products.
