According to Dong Thap Center for Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion, linking OCOP products with tourism is a key task, in order to contribute to the economic development of rural areas, preserve traditional cultural identity, rural environment, and develop local image. The Seminar aims to continue consulting with experts and businesses to develop OCOP products associated with agricultural tourism and Dong Thap craft villages effectively in the coming time.

Seminar attendees were informed by experts on many issues surrounding the relationship between OCOP products and tourism. Accordingly, tourism and OCOP products are in the same value chain, not separate from each other, creating a dual advantage in development.

For Dong Thap tourism to develop, experts said, it is necessary to have unique OCOP products with indigenous elements from craft villages. At the same time, it is also necessary to identify suitable OCOP products associated with tourism to focus on investment.

At the Seminar, experts propose solutions to promote consumption of OCOP products and Dong Thap Province’s specialty products associated with travel businesses such as: Design attractive, interconnected tour and experience programmes at OCOP locations; develop preferential sales policies and promotions to stimulate tourists to buy OCOP products.

For local authorities, it is necessary to research and promote the construction of additional OCOP tourism models; increase investment in infrastructure and facilities to serve tourism development; add policies to support travel businesses to develop tourism in Dong Thap…

Besides, experts also shared about transforming the tourism business model combined with the commercialization of OCOP products and craft villages; digital transformation solutions in designing experiential tourism products combined with consuming local agricultural products…

According to information from the Coordination Office of the National Target Program on building new rural areas and restructuring the provincial agricultural sector, Dong Thap is the locality with the highest number of OCOP products in the Mekong Delta and ranks 4th in the country. By the end of July, Dong Thap had 357 OCOP products, of which, 1 product achieved 5 stars, 81 OCOP products achieved 4 stars and 275 OCOP products achieved 3 stars. There are currently 3 potential products waiting for the Central Council to evaluate and classify them as 5 stars.
