Central Highlands: Exploiting the potential of natural and cultural landscapes, developing tourism, building new rural areas

(TITC) – The land of the Central Highlands possesses huge potential for tourism resources. Not only does it possess pure, pristine natural landscapes, the land of vast mountains and forests also contains cultural treasures with its own unique identity values.

The Central Highlands includes 5 provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong; located at the junction of the Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia Development Triangle, adjacent to the North Central Coast, South Central Coast and Southeast regions. In addition to its important strategic location, the Central Highlands also has favourable conditions to expand economic development exchanges, especially tourism development, with many regions throughout the country and internationally.

Blessed by nature with many tourism resources, the Central Highlands is famous for its landscapes along the Dak Bla, Serepok, Krong Ana, Krong No rivers; system of large and beautiful lakes such as Lak lake, Tuyen Lam lake, Dan Kia Suoi Vang lake, Bien Ho, hydroelectric lakes such as Yaly, Ta Dung, Dai Ninh,…; Natural waterfalls stretch across the provinces. At the same time, the Central Highlands is home to 49 ethnic groups, so the cultural identity here is extremely diverse and rich. This is also a land with many historical, cultural, revolutionary relics, and traditions of heroic struggle to defend the country.

Referring to the Central Highlands is mentioning a massive cultural treasure with a unique heritage system such as the Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space – a masterpiece of oral and intangible traditions of humanity; unique traditional architectural values such as communal houses, longhouses, tombs…; unique traditional festivals such as the dugout boat racing festival, gong festival, new rice celebration, grave leaving ceremony…; and especially epic culture, folk music…

In recent years, the Central Highlands provinces have regularly organised regional association conferences with many localities across the country; with major tourist centres such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for local state management agencies and tourism businesses to discuss development solutions together.

The provinces have been implementing solutions to gradually turn Central Highlands tourism into an important economic sector, positively contributing to the region’s socio-economic development; contributing to promoting hunger eradication, poverty reduction, building new rural areas, ensuring social security…In addition, the provinces have also signed tourism development cooperation programs to quickly recover tourism after the pandemic; At the same time, tourism development is considered one of the urgent tasks in the coming years.
