Hanoi to host a contest to honour craft village products in 2023

(TITC) – On 9th October, Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development had a meeting with the Jury board of Hanoi Craft Village Products Contest 2023.

This is an important event in the programme to organise the Vietnam Craft Village Conservation and Development Festival in 2023 organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordination with the Ha Noi City People’s Committee. Participating in the contest were 109 collectives and individuals, including 30 artisans (10 elite artisans); 79 skilled workers from 25 districts and towns. 327 products registered for the contest include the following groups: Rattan, bamboo, natural leaves; lacquer, mother-of-pearl mosaic, fine art wood; ceramics and glass; weaving, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet; horns, shells, carved stone, metal.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ta Van Tuong, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated, there are 1,350 craft villages and vocational villages in Hanoi, accounting for 56% of the total number of craft villages in the country, converging 47/52 professions in the total number of traditional professions in the country. Up to now, 322 craft villages have been recognized. Craft villages have had growth in revenue, of which, about 100 craft villages reach from VND10 to 20 billion/year, nearly 70 craft villages reach from VND20 to 50 billion/year and about 20 craft villages reach over VND50 billion/year…

The contest is organised to honour craft village products; create a playground and encourage talented artisans and workers to promote new ideas, produce works that are creative, technical, aesthetic, and highly applicable, meeting the demands of the domestic and international market. The contest is a place for artisans, skilled workers, production facilities, and businesses to exchange and learn experiences, connect and promote trade, expand consumer markets, improve product value, and contribute to preserving and developing traditional crafts.

The contest will have 56 prizes, including: 1 Special prize, 5 First prizes, 10 Second prizes, 15 Third prizes and 25 Consolation prizes. Products won first, second, and third prizes from the City will attend the ceremony to honour talented artisans and workers in the field of rural industries nationwide.
