(TITC) – On 20th October, at Son La city’s Tay Bac Square, Son La province held the opening ceremony of the first Son La Coffee Festival 2023, themed “Son La Arabica – Taste of the Northwest mountains and forests”.

Giving his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee, said this is an important event, an opportunity for Son La province and the Northwest provinces to introduce and promote Arabica coffee products; honouring coffee growers, producers, processors, traders and exporters; contributing to the development of high-quality, sustainable Arabica coffee growing areas, enhancing value, and affirming the position of Son La Arabica coffee in domestic and international markets.
Son La has suitable climate and soil conditions for cultivating Arabica coffee. Since the late 1980s, Son La province has implemented the Arabica coffee development programme. Through many stages, up to now the Arabica coffee tree has grown well and become the main crop of Son La province, creating livelihoods for ethnic minority people.
Son La Coffee products have been exported to 20 EU countries, North America, the Middle East and ASEAN with stable and high prices, contributing to increasing the income of coffee growers and processors, and creating more jobs.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony,
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan stated, Son La
coffee always contributes positively to the overall development of Vietnam’s
coffee industry. In the coming time, cooperation and linkage will play an
important role in developing a sustainable value chain of the Son La coffee
industry. Cooperation and association help the Son La coffee industry approach
the “experience economy”, linking indigenous resources with local
cultural and historical experiences. Cooperation and association help Son La
coffee industry proactively adapt better to climate change, market
fluctuations, and changing consumption trends.
The first Son La Coffee Festival
2023 took place from 20th October to 23rd October 2023. Within the framework of
the festival, events such as: Exhibition fair – Theme “Son La Coffee –
Integration and Development” displays the province’s socio-economic
development achievements; Coffee products inside and outside the province;
Tourism products; Products of sponsors; Safe agricultural products in Son La
province and other provinces and cities; Ornamental products; Products and
visual spaces about crafted coffee.
Workshop on improving the quality
of Son La coffee – Topic “Sustainable coffee production” to exchange
solutions to improve the quality of Son La Arabica Coffee; Announcement of
coffee production areas applying high technology; Awarding the Investment
Policy Decision and approving the investor of the Son La Arabica Coffee
planting project. Coffee product trade connection conference to provide
specific information about Son La province’s coffee products for domestic and
foreign consumers and businesses to research, learn, connect and consume and
export; Exchange and connect trade between enterprises producing, processing
and exporting Son La coffee with domestic and foreign coffee consuming and
importing partners; Signing contracts, cooperation, memorandum of cooperation;
Inauguration of investment projects in the coffee sector; Displaying beautiful
photos of Son La coffee – Theme “Son La Coffee – The journey to create a
brand”; Farmer competition; Coffee Gala and Organise experiential tours,
explore coffee tours.
