In 2014, Trung Thanh 2 hamlet, Vo Tranh commune (Phu Luong, Thai Nguyen) was recognized by the Provincial People’s Committee as a traditional tea craft village, with a total tea production area of 30 hectares. In 2019, the Traditional Tea Craft Village of Trung Thanh 2 Hamlet was honored by the Vietnam Craft Village Association as a typical Vietnamese Tea Craft Village.

Sharing about this result, Ms. Tong Thi Xuyen, Head of the Traditional Tea Craft Village of Trung Thanh 2 Hamlet, said: “The member households of the village all receive attention and support from the provincial authorities and the local government. In addition to training classes on techniques for intensive tea cultivation, tea production according to VietGAP, organic standards, etc., households are also supported with over 600 million VND to buy equipment. Thereby, helping people improve their skills, increase product quality and price.”

Recently, Thai Nguyen province has implemented many support programs to develop craft villages and traditional craft villages. In the period 2018-2023, the province has allocated 12 billion VND to organize vocational training classes, training for rural workers on vocational transmission, career development, trade… In the period 2020-2023, Thai Nguyen supports 12 rural industry development projects, with a total budget of over 5 billion VND. In particular, the main thing is to support equipment, production lines, and improve knowledge for craft village member households; develop craft villages associated with tourism; building OCOP products… Thereby, in many localities in the province, craft village households and traditional craft villages have joined forces to establish cooperative groups and cooperatives and successfully built OCOP products, typical agricultural products…

Develop craft villages, create livelihoods for people

The White Horse Breeding Cooperative in Pham hamlet was set up in 2013, with 45 members

According to Mr. Duong Xuan Truong, Director of White Horse Breeding Cooperative in Pham hamlet, Duong Thanh commune (Phu Binh): “With the attention and support of functional agencies, the White Horse Breeding Cooperative in Pham hamlet was set up in 2013, with 45 members. After that, the craft village of raising livestock and processing horse products in Pham hamlet was recognized in 2014. Since then, the activities of households in the craft village as well as cooperatives have gradually been professionalized and connective”.

According to statistics from functional agencies, the whole province currently has 272 recognized craft villages, including the following professions: ornamental animals; weaving palm blinds; fine art woodwork; production of vermicelli, cakes, vermicelli, tofu, chung cake, sticky rice sauce; raising horse and processing horse products… Craft villages and traditional craft villages have formed 107 cooperatives and 99 cooperative groups. Thereby contributing to creating regular jobs for over 42,000 workers, with an average income of 4.5 million VND/person/month.

In order for craft villages and traditional craft villages in the province to continue to develop, contributing to diversifying industries and developing agriculture and rural areas, Mr. Luong Van Vuong, Chairman of the Provincial Craft Village Association, said: The Association will continue to promote its role as a bridge to bring policies, support programs, and cooperative activities in production and consumption to craft villages and traditional craft villages. Along with that, we encourage and create motivation for member households of craft villages and traditional craft villages to form cooperative groups and cooperatives.
