Unleashing the Potential of OCOP
Over the past four years, the OCOP program in Loc Ninh district has undergone a systematic execution across all communes and towns. This approach has successfully harnessed the district’s potential and regional advantages, particularly its cultural richness. As a result, it has led to the development of multi-faceted OCOP products that cater to consumer needs.
The district currently boasts 23 OCOP products meeting 3 to 4-star standards, with five products completing submissions for provincial review and recognition. These include ST24 rice from the Loc Khanh Trading Cooperative, fine woodcraft products under the name “My Hometown Loc Ninh” by producer Nguyen Linh, wasabi-flavoured roasted cricket snacks and cheese-flavoured cricket snacks by Cricket One Co., Ltd, and high-quality swiftlet nests from hamlet 2, Loc Thai commune.
To link OCOP products with the market, the district leaders have taken proactive measures to assist product owners in participating in trade fairs, investment promotion conferences, and supply-demand linkage programs. They also offer trade fairs, exhibitions, packaging design, branding, and product promotion guidance. Additionally, dedicated product showcase booths are established to facilitate product promotion.
However, challenges remain in implementing the OCOP program, particularly in product promotion and consumption. The absence of a recognized brand presence in the market, ineffective marketing strategies, and unattractive packaging have affected competitiveness.
Boosting Product Consumption
The district’s primary objective is to enhance OCOP product quality and meet market demands. They aim to establish OCOP products as trusted, high-quality brands, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperatives to bolster domestic production and increase value for the local community.
From 2023 to 2025, Loc Ninh district will prioritize the strong development of OCOP products, closely integrating them with the digital transformation in agriculture and rural areas. Key activities will involve hosting trade fairs to promote and facilitate the trade of products that have received provincial-level evaluations and rankings. Additionally, support will be extended to improve and expand the potential of products participating in the OCOP program. The district will focus on 21 food products, four beverages, two herbal products, and two souvenirs, furniture, and decoration products.
In this endeavour, communes and towns will carefully select the most promising 1-2 products to channel their development efforts. The goal is to register more than ten products for participation in the OCOP program, aiming for a 3-star rating or higher by 2023-2025. In parallel, ongoing assessments, adjustments, and improvements will be made to ensure alignment with real-world conditions. The ultimate objective is to have 50% of OCOP products in the district undergo digital transformation by 2025. |
Enterprises, cooperatives, production facilities, and businesses will unite their efforts to elevate the value of their products, emphasizing both quality and design improvements. This gradual approach will result in the creation of products with multiple integrated values. Moreover, there will be an emphasis on improving packaging and labels and creating distinctive, region-specific gifts. Significantly, a concerted effort will enhance product promotion and introductions through unified and synchronized electronic trading platforms.
